20 Week Microsoft Office Program

MICROSOFT® OFFICE WORD
The course is both lecture driven as well as self-paced. Editing techniques, proofreading, formatting paragraphs, documents, letters, memorandums, working with graphics, tables, envelopes, and labels will be covered. Each student will be able to progress at his/her own speed, with the instructor introducing and reviewing topics as necessary.

MICROSOFT® OFFICE EXCEL
The course is both lecture driven as well as self-paced.  Students will learn to work with workbooks and worksheets: editing, functions and formulas, graphics, and charting. The opportunity to become Microsoft Office certified will be available. Each student will be able to progress at his/her own speed, with the instructor introducing and reviewing topics as necessary.

MICROSOFT® POWERPOINT
This course presents the concepts of PowerPoint.  Students will create their own presentations. The presentations will include sound, animation, movies, pictures scanned, taken with a digital camera and from the Internet. Students will learn to work with presentations, slide master, design templates, animation, slide transitions, creating and manipulating objects.

MS OUTLOOK
This course will teach the student how to use Outlook to coordinate messages, calendars, contacts, and tasks.

COMPUTER EXPLORATION
This course provides students with an understanding of how hardware and software work together in a business environment.  Students will become skilled in the use of Microsoft XP and the use of Internet Explorer and the Internet for hands-on business applications. 

PORTFOLIO DEVELOPMENT/INTERVIEWING
This course will help students to organize proof of their accomplishments both inside and outside of school. The portfolio demonstrates progress toward career goals.  Students will also review and understand the standard questions and answers for a typical interview.

SOFTWARE ELECTIVE
Students will have the opportunity to explore the following courses—MS Access, Intro to QuickBooks, MS Publisher, and Medical Billing and choose one course to explore in greater detail.

COMPUTER LAB
Independent time to complete computer generated projects.

INTERNSHIP
This course is an option that the student must earn by successfully completing all required courses. The student is placed in an office setting approved by the instructor during the standard school hours. The office selected will provide the student with the opportunity to utilize the skills learned during the program.
