Massage Therapy for Family & Friends
Learn massage techniques to reduce stress and relieve tension for family and friends. This course provides an introduction to the exciting and fast growing field of massage therapy. Certified Nurses Aid
Become a member of the health care team, become a certified nurses aid. Curriculum will follow guidelines of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health to prepare the graduate to take the nurse aid certification exam. Classroom component will be held twice a week from 4:30 ­ p.m. until 9:30 p.m. at Southeastern Technical Institute and clinical component will be held five Saturdays at a long term care facility, 7:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m., dates TBD.

EKG Technician Training Course
Become a member of the health care team by gaining the skills to perform an Electrocardiogram in the hospital, clinic, lab, or physician office. Course topics include: Anatomy and Physiology of the heart, diseases of the heart, proper lead placement, operating the monitor, Holter monitors, Pacemakers, basic reading of EKG recordings, identifying artifacts, and professionalism.

Phlebotomy
Phlebotomists are health care team members who play an important role on the medical laboratory team by collecting blood specimens for labora­tory testing. Course topics include: principles and methods of phleboto­my, anatomy and physiology, infection control, quality assurance, safety, professionalism and CPR certification. Graduates are qualified to take the national certification exam through the American Society of Clinical Pa­thology, ASCP. Requirements: High School Diploma or GED, recent physical examination, immunizations, health insurance, and CORI.

Practical Nurse Entrance Exam Preparation Courses
Are you applying to the Practical Nurse program? Prepare to do your best on the placement exam. Each class covers the corresponding chapters of the TEAS Review book. Review: Math (Algebra), English (Reading Comprehension and Writ­ing) and Science (Biology, Chemistry and General) before you take the test that will determine your entrance into the Practical Nurse Program. The classes are taught by Math, English and Science instructors. Take only one section or all three.  The cost of each program includes the TEAS Study Review Book ($45.00)The math class cost also includes an additional math workbook.

Medical Ethics and Law
This class introduces the students to the ethics and legal principles involved in the medical environment. Learn the similarities and differences between law and ethics, key terms, decision making models and various behavioral patterns. Students will examine real live case studies, branches of govern­ment, classification of laws, medical specialty boards, physician’s rights, li­ability of health professionals, federal regulations, confidentiality (HIPAA), codes of ethics and bioethical issues, and healthcare websites. Upon completion of the class students will understand patient rights, healthcare reform and ethical standards of behavior.

Introduction to Medical Coding
What does a medical coder do? Medical Coders are in demand and are paid well, but is it a job for me? The course covers the following areas: CPT introduction, guidelines, evaluation, and management; specialty fields such as surgery, radiology and laboratory; ICD-9 CM introduction and guidelines to medical diseases; and basic claims process for medical insurance and third party reimbursement. Students will learn how to find the service codes using coding manuals, (CPT, HCPCS & ICD-9 CM).

Current Procedural Terminology: CPT-4
A comprehensive course on current procedural terminology. Learn how to utilize medical reports for translation into CPT coding for medical proce­dures and services. This class will introduce the principles of CPT-4 coding and the methodology for code selection as it relates to the reimbursement system.   Must have a strong understanding of Human Anatomy and Physiology and Medical Terminology.

Medical Billing
Medical Billing is an introductory course for those in an entry level position in a doctor’s office. Learn about billing terminology, managed care, com­mercial plans, high deductibles, Medicare, and Medicaid. Practice com­pleting medical paper claim forms, as well as electronic claims billing. The course provides an overview of medical laws such as HIPPA, the Security Rule, and Stark II.

Medical Transcription-Semi-online course
This introductory class will provide hands on experience transcribing various types of medical notes.  Document preparation/word processing in MS Word will be covered.  Current trends in medical transcription and employment opportunities will also be discussed.  This course will include three classroom sessions, in addition, students will be expected to complete the majority of transcription projects outside of class time and submit assignments to the instructor for grading.  Students should have access to a computer and email.  Please bring a set of earphones to class.  Prerequisites:  Medical Terminology & Anatomy & Physiology I & II.

EMT-BASIC PROGRAM

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Program
EMT-Basic is an entry level course designed to enable students to register and take the Massachusetts EMT-Basic Exam upon successful completion of the program and to function as an Emergency Medical Technician after completing/passing the Massachusetts state exams.  EMT-basic deliver pre-hospital care and transport the sick and injured to hospital emergency rooms as well as routine transfers.  Becoming an EMT is an excellent stepping stone for those who aspire to become a professional in healthcare, law enforcement, EMS and Fire Services.

The program is certified by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Office of Emergency Medical Services with the training provided by STARR EMS TRAINING.

American Heart Association Healthcare CPR/First Aid Instructor
The American Heart Association Basic Life Support CPR/First Aid Instructor program certifies you as an AHA instructor and entitles you to train others in life saving programs, such as, CPR, First Aid, Etc.

Prerequisites:  Healthcare Provider CPR Certified (1 year minimum), must be current on skills and changes of the 2005 CPR and ECC guidelines change.
